BUENA VISTA, Va. — Elaina Hummel and Ronje James scored 22 points and hit six clutch free throws down the stretch to rally Frostburg State to a 75-71 win over Southern Virginia on Wednesday.
The Bobcats (7-14) trailed 71-69 with 1:01 to go before Hummel and James combined to make six of eight foul shots in the final minute. Both were 3 for 4. Hummel hit a pair that gave FSU the lead for good at 72-71. After a Southern Virginia turnover, James hit two more with 19 seconds to go to help seal it.
There were 14 ties and 17 lead changes. The Bobcats pulled it out from the free-throw line, making 23 of 30 chances and turning 28 Southern Virginia turnovers into 35 points.
Hummel finished 14 of 17 from the foul line and James was 6 for 7. Simone Wise added 11 points.
Crystal Cleveland had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Melynda Boren 15 points and 10 rebounds for Southern Virginia (3-18).
Frostburg plays again Saturday at Marymount.

Lohr helps Cork’s Cars to 4-0 win
Broc Lohr allowed one hit on the mound and had his team’s only hit at the plate as Cork’s Cars scrapped together four runs to shut out Madigan’s Auto Parts 4-0 on Monday at the Hot Stove Complex.
