FSU men place third at Messiah

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — The Frostburg State men’s track and field team, with 17 top 10 finishes, placed third in a 14-team field at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday.

Chris Rickell and Mark Wilburn were runners-up, with Rickell second in the  high jump (1.83 meters) and Wilburn second in the triple jump (12.35 meters). The 4x800-meter relay team of Anthony Hayden, Steven Spitzer, Jeremy Brown and Greg Horning was second with a time of 8:55.21.

For the second week in a row, the 4x100 team of Matt Collins, Jason Jackson, Charles Lyles and Greg Alexander qualified for the ECAC Championships, this time with a mark of 43.71, which was .03 seconds better than last week.

Collins was third in the 400 (51.19), Jackson fourth in the 200 (22.94) and Alexander fifth in the long jump (5.83 meters).

Andre Arthur was fourth in the discus (40.14 meters), Curtis Buckland fifth in the discus (39.19 meters), Trey Davis fifth in the hammer (44.22 meters) and Seth Stine fifth in the javelin (48.71 meters).

On Friday, Devin Francillon took second place in a field of nine in the men’s decathlon with 5,735 points. Drew Engle of Messiah won with 5,803 points.

Francillon posted the fastest time in the 100 (11.72), and was second in the high jump (1.76 meters), javelin (44.27 meters) and 1,500 (4:51.84).

Morgan Carroll and Casi Chisholm led the FSU women with top 10 finishes.

Carroll was third in the high jump (1.47 meters) and Chisholm was eighth in the hammer (27.87 meters). Chisholm was also 15th in the discus (21.63) and 19th in the shot put (7.66).

Brynn Allston was 11th in the 1,500 (5:22:01) and 22nd in the 800 (2:51.82). Gabbi Maher was 14th in the 5,000 (21:06.56).

The Bobcats will compete in the Mason-Dixon Invitational on Saturday at Gettysburg.

  • Carr has 10 RBIs as Northern splits pair

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.
