Hornets sink Shanksville

HYNDMAN, Pa. — Chad Deneen fired a two-hit shutout and smacked an RBI double to lead Hope for Hyndman past Shanksville on Friday.

Deneen allowed only two singles and struck out six in the complete-game win. He was aided by an errorless defense that included a pair of double plays. Second baseman Brad Torbet caught a pop up and doubled up a Shanksville runner in the second inning, then was part of a 6-4-3 double play in the fourth.

Jack Leydig hit two singles and knocked in a run and Colton Mowry had an RBI single for the Hornets (5-2), who had eight hits.

Losing pitcher Steve Weibel had both Shanksville hits.

Hyndman plays again Monday at Meyersdale.

Thursday night

No. 4 Petersburg    3

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Shane Ennis blasted a pair of home runs and drove in five runs to power top-ranked Hampshire past fourth-ranked Petersburg Thursday evening.

Ennis hit a two-run homer to left field during a three-run first inning, then belted a two-run shot to right-center in a four-run fourth that put the Trojans (12-1) up 8-3. He also drew a bases-loaded walk.

Josh Crawford drove in three runs with a single and sacrifice fly, David Delawder hit two singles and Ethan Turner and Dan Heavener had RBI singles for Hampshire.

Matt Maiers went the distance for the win, scattering five hits, allowing one earned run and striking out eight with only one walk.

Brett Reel doubled and singled and Brandon George had an RBI single for Petersburg (11-4).

Hampshire plays at Northern on Monday.

Tuesday

Frankfort 5-11, Bishop Walsh 1-7

POTOMAC PARK — Braiden Popluhar had three hits in the first game and Tyler Conley tripled and singled in the second, powering Frankfort to a sweep of Bishop Walsh at Memorial Field at the Hammersmith Hot Stove Complex.

In the opener, Popluhar doubled and singled twice while Conley and Cole Smith hit two singles for the Falcons. Winning pitcher Colten Dorsey and Garrett Shoemaker teamed for a two-hitter with five strikeouts.

Hunter Marrale doubled and scored for Bishop Walsh.

In the nitecap, Popluhar and Shoemaker tripled and Smith added two more singles for Frankfort, which led 10-1 after a six-run fourth.

Hunter Marrale went 3 for 3 with three singles and three runs scored, Brandon Reed was 3 for 4 with three singles and Stefan Miller tripled and knocked in two runs for the Spartans.

Frankfort (9-9, 5-3 AMAC) plays a doubleheader at R.C. Byrd today. BW (0-8, 0-5) will host Allegany on Monday.
