— COLUMBIA — Shameena Johnson recorded a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds and Garrett College held off Howard to collect an 89-77 win Wednesday in Columbia.

Rodrina Thorpe-Sheppard led the Lakers with a 21-point outing, while Johnson shined on both ends of the floor. Terra McKenzie, a former standout at Northern High School, hit four three-point buckets as part of a 20-point performance. Kailyn Woods added 12 points and Janice Bartley scored 10 as Garrett had five players finish with double-digit scoring.

Garrett built a 46-29 lead over the first 20 minutes, but Howard was able to creep back slightly during the second half.

The Dragons were led by Kara Hight’s 21 points.

The Lakers (5-4) play Saturday hosting Prince George’s.

Hagerstown    69

Potomac State    46

KEYSER, W.Va. — Potomac State and Hagerstown played consistant from the first half to the second, but, unfortunately for the Catamounts, the Hawks were just a little better in each half to come away with a win Wednesday in Keyser.

Hagerstown played its way to a 34-23 edge of Potomac State at halftime and the teams almost repeated the effort in the second half as the Hawks outscored the Cats 35-23.

Alexis Steele’s 12 points was the team-high for Potomac State, which has lost five straight. Morgan Wright scored 10 points and Rachel Raibogha added nine. Steele also led the team with five assists.

Hagerstown had four players score in double figures with Miesha Adams leading the way with 17.

Potomac State (1-6) begins play in the Charm City Classic on Friday at 8 p.m. when it plays Baltimore City.
