Fort Hill defeats Allegany in opener

— CUMBERLAND — When both teams had a wrestler available, Fort Hill and Allegany finished pretty evenly, but the Sentinels took advantage of five Camper forfeits to win 43-27 in their first match of the season Wednesday.

The Sentinels received forfeits in the five lowest weight classes (106, 113, 120, 126 and 132) while Allegany held a 6-3 advantage in actual head-to-head matches.

Drake Arnold had the only win by pinfall for Fort Hill when he won in 1:00 at 152 pounds. Adam McDonald won a 7-0 decision at 138 pounds and Brennan Carlin won 12-3 at 220 for the other two Sentinels victories.

Allegany’s Ryan Murphy (145), Reed Lawson (195) and Garrett Maiers (285) all won by pin. Murphy won in 3:36, Lawson in 5:11 and Maiers in 1:10. Chris Stosick won a 5-3 decision at 160 pounds, Kirk Robinette won at 170 by a score of 5-4 and Garrett Bittinger prevailed 9-1 at 182 pounds.

Fort Hill hosted Mountain Ridge Thursday evening.

Northern, Southern defeat Frankfort

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Northern and Southern handed Frankfort a pair of setbacks Wednesday at Frankfort.

In Northern’s 48-27 win over the Falcons, the Huskies’ Zack Haer (113), Cody Platter (120), Justin Opel (126), Carder Yoder (160) and Brandon Platter all won by pin. For Frankfort, Nathan Lewis (152) won by pin.

Southern topped Frankfort, 42-40, helped by pins by Devan Hamrick (106), Austin Shaffer (120), Cooper McCauley (126), Tanner Massey (145), Stephen Collins (160) and Scott Cooper (195). Frankfort’s Lewis (152), Braxton Lewis (182) and Shawn Evans (220) won by pin as well.
