PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Keyser won in another rout, 72-29, at Petersburg on Friday night.
The Golden Tornado were coming off a 91-14 blowout of Bishop Walsh in their opener. They set the tone early against Petersburg, leading 20-4 after the first quarter.
The second wasn’t much better for Petersburg, though they did triple their first quarter output to trail 38-12 at halftime.
Keyser continued to pour it on in the second half, leading 57-22 after three and going on to win by 43.
Allison Brown led Petersburg with nine points.
Lexi Carr scored 18 to lead Keyser. Sam Hoban had 17 and Carley Grady added 12.
Keyser (2-0) plays at Frankfort on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Petersburg (2-1) will play in its Tip-Off Tournament starting Friday.
Lewis County 35
WESTON, W.Va. — Allison Fout sank five three-pointers to help her score a game-high 26 points as Hampshire won its opener over Lewis County Friday evening.
The Trojans started slowly and trailed 10-9 at the end of the first quarter, but they switched to the press in the second quarter and began to pull away to lead 22-16 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter it was 41-26.
Fout made a total of nine field goals and converted one of her four foul shots. She also led the team with five steals. Tori Veach finished with six points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
“We wore them down in the second half by sticking with our pressure defense,” Hampshire coach Al Straley said. “We went deep into our bench to stay fresh and they seemed to tire out trying to keep up with us.”
Hampshire plays today, 2 p.m., when it travels to Buckhannon.
Cumberland Valley 28
CRESAPTOWN — Karly Hipsley led Calvary with 20 points and eight rebounds in a rout of Cumberland Valley at Calvary on Friday.
Calvary started slow offensively but smothered Cumberland Valley defensively to take a 12-6 lead at the end of one.
The Lady Eagles imposed their will with 17 more in the second. Cumberland Valley added 10 but trailed 29-16 at the break.
Cumberland Valley started the second half nearly as cold as they started the first with just seven points. Calvary opened up a 24-point advantage after three quarters and cruised to a 29-point win.
Hannah Turner was the lone double digit scorer for Cumberland Valley with 10. She also hit the only three-pointers in the game with two.
Savannah Reed also grabbed eight rebounds along with 18 points for Calvary. Peyton Emerick scored 12 points. Victoria Moreland had seven steals and five points
Calvary is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference. It will play another MDCC game at Broadfording on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Paw Paw 39
PAW PAW, W.Va. — Belle Harrold led all scorers with 14 points for Paw Paw, helping edge Salisbury at Paw Paw Friday night.
Alivia Snyder scored four points in the second quarter to lead Paw Paw to a 17-12 halftime advantage.
Each team scored 12 in the third to keep it a five-point game.
Salisbury won the fourth, 13-10, but it wasn’t enough to come away with a road win.
Kylee Short scored nine. Emily Lowery, Kayly McKenzie and Brynne Kemp each had eight for the Falcons.
Shiann Groah had 11 and Andrea Rodriguez added eight for Paw Paw (1-1) who hosts Turkeyfoot Friday at 7:30 p.m.
