Southern wins Baker Tournament

Mountain Ridge atop standings in three divisions, half-game back of Hampshire in 4th

— KEYSER, W.Va. — The Holiday Baker Bowling Tournament was held at the Rainbow Lanes on Friday with Southern 1 coming through with a perfect record to take first place in the annual showdown.

The loser's bracket had Allegany 2 pitted against Mountain R­idge 1 for the semi-finals with Mountain Ridge winning 2 of 3 games. Southern earned the title by defeating Mountain Ridge 2-1 in the finals. Southern team members were Matthew Warrick, Aaron Sisler, Savannah Rodeheaver, Kristie Swearengen, and Dylan Lewis.

Allegany 2 took third place with Allegany 1 in fourth place. Mountain Ridge 1 rolled the highest game of 227 while Allegany 1 had a 223 and Southern 1 a 213.

The standings of the season has Mountain Ridge in outright first place or tied in three of the four divisions. The Actual Division has the girls record of 5.5-.5 and in first place, while the boys are at 5-0 and tied with Fort Hill in the boy's division. Mountain Ridge and Southern girls are tied at 5-1 in the Adjusted Division while Hampshire boys are on top with a record of 4-0. Mountain Ridge is only a .5 game away.

The girls match between Southern and Mountain Ridge for the top spot had Miner Mariah Snyder rolling a 559 set with a high game of 205 to defeat Southern 30-6. They also rolled to a 20-16 score to take the Adjusted, giving Southern their first lost of the season and tying them for first in the division.

The Actual Division has Frankfort following at 2.5-.5, Calvary Christian at 3.5-1.5, Fort Hill at 2-2, Hampshire at 1.5-2.5, Lighthouse Christian and Allegany at 1.5-3.5, and Keyser and Bishop Walsh at 0-4. High games rolled were Amanda Wilson’s 166 (Fort Hill), Hannah Smith at 171 (Allegany), Savannah Chaney’s 168 (Calvary Christian), Katie Bussard’s 161 (Lighthouse Christian), Rashanna Middleton 173 (Fort Hill), Hannah Raines 180 (Frankfort) and Kristie Swearengen 164 (Southern).

Third place in the Girl's Adjusted has Keyser (3-1), followed by Lighthouse Christian (4-2), Hampshire (2-2), Calvary Christian (2-3), Frankfort (1-2), Fort Hill (1.5-3.5), Allegany (1-4), and Bishop Walsh (.5-3.5).

Fort Hill boys have defeated Allegany twice by scores of 22-14 and 26-10, and got a 36-0 over Lighthouse Christian to be in a tie with Mountain Ridge for first place of the Actual Division. In the Allegany match, Kasey Sullivan (Fort Hill) had a 268 game while teammate Greg Fansler had a 247 and Dylan Bean added a 237 game. Randy Cubbage (Allegany) rolled a 245 game in that match. The other Allegany/Fort Hill match saw Wes Mason (223), Carter Nave (224, 216), Randy Cubbage (222,215), and Anthony Hines (200) of Allegany roll games over 200. Fort Hill was led by Darron Warner (203, 222), Trey Bennett’s 640 set (200-224-216), Kylan Bean (213) and Kasey Sullivan (200,225) with a total of 14 games over 200 in one match.

Mountain Ridge’s Mathews rolled 204 and 207 games against Southern while Dylan Lewis had a 229 game for the third-place Rams (4-2). Hampshire has a record of 3-1, Frankfort and Bishop Walsh are tied at 1-2 with Allegany and Lighthouse Christian at 1-4. Keyser completes the Actual standings at 0-3.

The Adjusted Division has Southern at 4-2, followed by Fort Hill and Lighthouse Christian (3-2), Frankfort (1.5-1.5), Bishop Walsh (1-2), Keyser (0-3) and Allegany at 0-5.
