White, Brunett power FSU over New England, 18-8, for 1st win

FROSTBURG — Senior Megan White and junior Malory Brunett  each scored four goals as the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team powered past New England College, 18-8, for its first win on Wednesday afternoon.

Brunett added two assists to her four goals and White contributed one assist, while junior Ellie Garner scored three times and handed out two assists. Frostburg held a 44-15 advantage in shots and limited New England to just 10 successful clears on 21 attempts.

The Bobcats (1-7) held a slim 3-2 edge midway through the first half before collecting a 5-0 run that pushed their lead to 8-2 with 9:12 to play. Frostburg tacked on four more scores to lead 12-4 at halftime.

FSU opened the second half with three-straight goals for a 15-4 lead. Junior Jessica Jones capped the afternoon with the Bobcats' final goal with 4:14 to play.

Brunett added seven draw controls and four caused turnovers to her afternoon totals. Freshman Molly Hart contributed one goal and three assists and finished second with four draw controls. Freshman Dylan Teitelbaum played the final 30 minutes in net and stopped four shots.

Jacquelyn Lane led the Pilgrims (0-3) with two goals and one assist, while Allison Granata and Gabriella Bigos each scored twice.

Frostburg opens Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday when it hosts Mary Washington at 3 p.m.
