Industrial softball league meeting

CUMBERLAND  — The Cumberland Industrial Softball League will hold an informational meeting Sunday, 5 p.m at the Constitution Park Activities Building (across from the pool). Anyone looking for info on the league or wanting to enter a team is encouraged to attend.

 

Calvary’s soccer season begins with a tie

CRESAPTOWN — The Calvary Christian Academy girls soccer team opened its season at Liberty Field with a 0-0 tie against Grace Academy on Thurday afternoon.

Calvary managed 17 shots, 10 on goal. Karly Hipsley was the goalkeeper for Calvary, recording three saves.

The Lady Eagles are the defending Mason-Dixon Christian  Conference champions.

 

All-Area basketball nominations needed

CUMBERLAND — The Times-News is asking boys and girls basketball head coaches to submit nominations for the all-area team to the sports department.

Coaches should turn in names and relevant stats for any players they would like to nominate. Please submit any nominations for the boys team to Mike Mathews at mmathews@times-news.com, and direct any girls nominations to Chris Appel at cappel@times-news.com.

MR jayvees softball beats Northern

CUMBERLAND — Avery Bridges struck out eight and allowed five hits to lead Mountain Ridge’s junior varsity team to a 7-4 win over Northern in the Miners’ season opener at Cavanaugh Field.

Alicen Steele and Brianna Taylor led the Mountain Ridge offense by collecting two singles apiece.

Haley Chapman stood out for Northern, hitting a pair of doubles and a single as well as recording nine strikeouts in the loss.

Mountain Ridge (1-0) plays Tuesday at home against Southern.
