CUMBERLAND — FROM STAFF REPORTS

CRESAPTOWN — Victoria Yoder recorded a hat trick in leading Shalom Academy past Calvary Christian, 4-3, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season in high school girls soccer Tuesday afternoon on a wet field in Cresaptown.

Weather put a dampered on scoring in the first 40 minutes, helping to keep both teams off the scoreboard. Shalom scored the first two goals of the second half as Alyssa Martin made it 1-0 and Yoder 2-0.

The Eagles came back to tie the score in the following three minutes on goals from Katie Zimmerman and Abby Daniels. Victoria Moreland assisted on the first goal, and Mikala Ultis on the second.

Yoder gave Shalom a 4-2 lead with back-to-back goals, and Daniels got the Eagles to within a goal on an assist from Ultis, but it came with less than a minute to play and Calvary was unable to score again.

Calvary (11-1, 10-1 Mason-Dixon Conference) led in shots, 20-19, while Shalom led 5-4 in corner kicks. Jessica Grove made 12 goalie saves in the win, and Kerenne Shaffer had 16 in the loss.

The Eagles will finish the regular season on Thursday when they visit Heritage Academy at 4:30 p.m.
