FROSTBURG — Women’s soccer junior Adria Graham and men’s soccer senior Ryan Russell captured the Female and Male Athlete of the Year awards at the 2012-13 Frostburg State University Athletics Awards Banquet held Monday night in Bobcat Arena. It’s the second-straight year that the tandem has swept the Athlete of the Year Awards.
Graham, a 2010 graduate of Northern High School, hit the All-American trifecta following the fall 2012 season. She became the program’s first-ever National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American for her play on the field after leading the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) in finishing 11th in the nation with 54 points behind a conference best 23 goals and eight assists. She also earned both COSIDA Academic and NSCAA Scholar All-American honors for carrying a perfect 4.00 grade point average in the classroom. An athletic training major, Graham has been selected as the CAC Player of the Year in each of the last two years.
Her high school career at Northern included three consecutive Times-News Offensive Player of the Year Awards (2007-2009). She still owns area records for career goals (112), assists (68) and points (292).
Russell has accomplished a lot in his two-year career with the Bobcats. For the second-straight year, Russell led the CAC in goals (14) and points (39) and helped guide FSU to the CAC Tournament semifinals for the second-straight season. Russell was name an NSCAA All-South Atlantic First Team honoree and was named the ECAC’s South Offensive Player of the Year.
