READING, Pa. — Frostburg State set a school record of 31 wins in a season as they cruised past Stevenson, 7-1, in the double elimination portion of the 2013 ECAC South Region Tournament, Saturday afternoon.
In the win, the Bobcats improve their record to 31-12 and surpassed the 2010 squad for the most wins in a season.
FSU continues ECAC action against host and top-seeded Alvernia today at 9 a.m. The loser will play again at 11 a.m. The winner play at 1 p.m. A seventh game, if necessary, will start at 3 p.m.
The Bobcats plated three runs off of three hits in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Bailey Ellsworth (Allegany High School) and Caitlin Lovend both registered back-to-back singles to set the stage for Renay Aubel. Aubel crushed a three-run bomb over the left center fence to post the score at 3-0.
Stevenson’s Courtney Cook found the Mustang’s first hit in their first at bats, but was left stranded on base.
Freshman Taylor Blevins connected for a double and eventually scored off a wild pitch to score one run heading into the third, 4-0 in favor of the Bobcats.
The Mustang’s answered with one run in the third and the Bobcats had an explosive three-run fifth inning to make it 7-1.
Taylor Vandegrift and Aubel both walked and were brought home by a Shari Beavers’ (Fort Hill High School) double and a Mustang throwing error.
Freshman Mary Ann Moore earned her 18th win of the season in seven complete innings allowing just five hits.
