Kaitlynn Fratz again named to WVIAC team

Sophomore led UPJ in scoring, was 27th nationally in NCAA Division II


JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Pitt-Johnstown’s Kaitlynn Fratz, a former area high school standout at Northern Garrett, was voted to the West Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Conference women’s basketball team for the second straight year.

Fratz, a 5-foot-4 sophomore guard who was the conference’s Freshman of the Year in 2012, helped lead UPJ to a 14-12 overall record and 12-10 in the conference.

Fratz averaged 18.2 points, 4.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. She led the team in scoring (474), assists (106), steals (47), field goals (152), free throws made (129), free throws attempted (166) and foul shooting among players with at least 40 attempts (77.7 percent). She was second in three-point goals (41), and had a 34-point game against West Virginia State and a 31-point game against Wheeling Jesuit.

Fratz was 27th in the nation among NCAA Division II teams in scoring and 75th in assists.

Fratz, of Accident, holds school records at Northern for career points (2,103), assists (305), steals (284) and points in a single season (734). She averaged 26.1 points per game in her senior season and 21.9 during her four-year career. She was the Times-News Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011.
