HAGERSTOWN — Mason Dick singled home a run in the top of the seventh inning to help Garrett avoid being swept during a doubleheader at Hagerstown Community College on Wednesday.
Dick’s game-winner came during the second half of the twinbill and led to a 5-4 win. The Hawks won the opener 9-1.
The Lakers (14-15, 3-5 MDJUCO) play another doubleheader on Friday, 1 p.m., at Frederick.
Dick, a graduate of Southern High School, broke a 4-4 tie with his single — the last of Garrett’s seven hits. Corey Helbig added an RBI double and Julian Spalding also doubled.
Drew DeShong had a double and a single for the Hawks in the loss.
Pitcher Bryor Weiss allowed two earned runs in the first inning and two unearned runs in the second while earning the victory.
During Hagerstown’s blowout win, the Hawks scored five runs over the first two innings and made it 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth. The final run was scored in the sixth.
Eric Schanzenbacher (two singles) and Tyler Walter (two-run double) led the Hagerstown bats.
Helbig paced Garrett by going 3-for-3 with a double and two singles.
