FROSTBURG — Caitlin Lovend homered in her first two at-bats and Frostburg State slammed seven roundtrippers on the day in a 6-0, 18-6 sweep of Hood Sunday afternoon in college softball.
The Bobcats (17-6) hit three homers in the first game and four in the second in taking the twinbill from Hood (16-7).
In the first game, Lovend went 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs. Her homers in the first and second innings staked FSU to a quick 3-0 lead.
Kerri O’Malley led off the fifth inning with a homer, and Taylor Vandegrift added a two-run single in the sixth.
Mary Ann Moore (9-3) tossed a three-hitter and struck out four in a complete game win.
In the second game, all nine Frostburg starters hit safely as the Bobcats scored 18 runs on 18 hits.
Renay Aubel led the attack, going 3 for 3 with two homers and six RBIs. She hit a three-run homer in the first inning and a solo shot in a nine-run fourth.
Shari Beavers went 3 for 4 with a homer, double, single and three RBIs, and Vandegrift was 3 for 4 with a homer, double, single and two RBIs.
Aubel and Beavers, the No. 4 and 5 hitters in the Frostburg lineup, combined to go 6 for 7 with nine RBIs. Bailey Ellsworth added three singles and two RBIs.
Hood’s Alexa Sivic, former high school standout at Allegany, went 2 for 3 with two singles and two RBIs.
Nicole Bradford got the win, her third of the season.
FSU plays a doubleheader at Waynesburg today.
