Garrett whips Anne Arundel

— OAKLAND — Garrett had six players score in double figures, including 22 from Antonio Butler, in a 99-70 drubbing of Anne Arundel at home Saturday.

Anne Arundel was 10-1 coming in. But, Garrett was the superior team from the onset. Crisp passing and assertiveness on the boards gave the Lakers a comfortable 51-25 halftime lead.

Garrett out-rebounded Anne Arundel, 46-31. The Pioneers put up more of a fight in the second half, though they were still outscored 48-45.

The Lakers had 25 assists, led by Din Moore’s seven along with 14 points. Guila Panzo had nine points and 11 rebounds. Steve Brown scored 14, D.J. Ritchie 12 and Kurt Gangler added 10.

Jalen Lester led Anne Arundel with 18 and Drevian Bell added 14.

Garrett (7-6) goes to Catonsville on Monday at 4 p.m.

FROSTBURG — Christian Jackson and DeSean Antoine scored 26 points apiece and Frostburg State put on a furious second-half rally but fell a few points short in a loss to No. 13 St. Mary’s.

Frostburg (5-9, 1-2 Capital Athletic Conference) chopped a 25-point deficit to seven but were unable to overcome a St. Mary’s offense that produced nine three-point goals, had four double-figure scorers and shot 56 percent from the field.

Devin Spencer had 26 points, Brendan McCall 16 and Nick LaGuerre 10 points and 11 assists as the Seahawks  (13-1, 3-0) won their 13th straight game.

Jackson added 13 rebounds for his second straight double-double for FSU, which used a 20-4 run to get to within 87-78 with 1:16 to go. Antoine fueled the comeback by scoring 21 of his points in the second half.

Frostburg will host Wesley on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
