PenMar-WV league to meet

RIDGELEY, W.Va. — The PenMar-WV Semi-Pro Baseball League will hold a meeting for coaches and league officials on Saturday, at 5 p.m., at the Ridgeley American Legion.

The PenMar League, founded in 1949, is for summer baseball players of high school age and above. Roughly 85 percent of the league’s players are former and existing college players. Last year, the wooden bat league had five teams: Tri-State Titans, Oakland Oaks, West Virginia Powerhouse, Cumberland Orioles and Morgantown.

Elks ‘Hoop Shoot’ contest Jan. 20

FROSTBURG — The Frostburg Elks will hold its annual “Hoop Shoot” free throw contest Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Frostburg Armory. Doors will open at 1:30 and the contest will start at 2 o’clock.

Boys and girls ages 8 to 13 are eligible to compete and age is determined as of April 1, 2013. The age divisions for girls and boys are 8-9, 10-11, 12-13. Participants are allowed to compete in only one local hoop shoot. Girls and boys 8-9 division will use a girls regulation ball. The 8-9 division will shoot 4 feet in front of the regulation foul line.
