No. 1 Alco assaults Keyser

KEYSER, W.Va. — Allegany won their third consecutive game with a 94-49 victory at Keyser Tuesday during Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Campers, ranked No. 1 in the latest Times-News Poll, at least doubled their lead during each of the first three quarters. They led 18-11 after one and were up 43-29 going into the locker room.

Allegany (10-4, 9-1) poured it on with a 22-7 third followed by a 29-13 fourth.

Aaron Rogers and Ryan Streets each scored 10 for the Golden Tornado.

Christian Thomas had a game-high 23 to lead the Campers. Bryce Nightengale finished with 17, Calman McKenzie 14, Darquel Jessie 12 and Jack Hawkins added 11.

Keyser edged Allegany, 51-49 in the jayvee game. Ryan Kunis had 19 points and Malik Harper, Denny Cuthbertson and Timmy Biser scored eight each.

Allegany looks for revenge when it hosts Fort Hill on Friday. Keyser (1-10, 1-8) travel to Hampshire to play on Thursday.

FROSTBURG — Rashawn Johnson scored 15 points and Kevin Gamble had 14 as Mountain Ridge avenged an early-season loss by beating fourth-ranked Hampshire.

The Miners (7-7, 5-4 AMAC) began well, with 22 points in the first quarter, and finished strong, outscoring the Trojans 16-9 in the fourth quarter for their third win in four games.

Michael Strietbeck added eight points and Branden Markwood went 5-for-6 from the foul line.

David Smith led Hampshire (6-7, 5-4) with 13 points. Travis Clower had 11 and Thomas Llewellyn eight.

Mountain Ridge won the jayvee game 39-30. Michael Alexander had 11 points and Lucas Lowry nine for the Miners. David Alexander had nine points for the Trojans.

Friday, the Mountain Ridge jayvees and freshmen won at Fort Hill.

The Miners won the jayvee game 55-44 with Lowry getting 16 points and Dylan Shimko 14. Ty Mance had 10 for Fort Hill.

Justin Halbritter poured in 32 points to carry the Mountain Ridge jayvees to a 55-48 win over the Sentinels.

Mountain Ridge plays at Frankfort on Friday. Hampshire will host Northern on Saturday.

Calvary    44

HYNDMAN, Pa. — Tim Leydig rained 28 points to lead Hyndman, 76-44, over Calvary at home Tuesday.

Leydig scored 15 of his 28 on three-pointers to lead potent offensive showing. The Hornets scored 43 points in the first half to go up 21 at the break.

Calvary failed to make a dent in the lead, scoring 11 points in each of the final two quarters.

Tyler Michael led the Eagles with 21.

Brad Torbet added 18 for the Hornets.

Hyndman won the jayvee game, 44-19, led by Josh Hiquet’s 11 points.

Calvary (8-7) plays at Union Thursday at 6 p.m. Hyndman (10-4) goes to Meyersdale Thursday at 7:15.

Northern    75

Salisbury    27

ACCIDENT — Jordan Evans put in 15 points for Northern in a 75-27 home victory over Salisbury Tuesday.

The Huskies led by four after a low-scoring first quarter. They extended their lead to 31-19 at halftime.

Salisbury couldn’t make up the deficit in the second half, scoring only 10 points over the final two quarters.

Jonah Snyder had 12 and Matt Tice added 11 for the Huskies.

Nathan Bodes led the Elks with 14.

They also won the jayvee game, 56-29, behind 17 from Hunter Mallow and Kyle Klotz with 14. Dakota Phillips scored 11 for Southern.

Northern (2-12) plays at Hampshire Friday at 7:30.

Moorefield    56

Pendleton    43

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Moorefield put together a 19-3 run to cover all of the second quarter, allowing the Yellow Jackets to overcome an early deficit and carry a 10-point lead into halftime of a 56-43 win over Pendleton County on Tuesday.

Adam Snyder led the Jackets with 19 points and had six rebounds, while Dakota Vetter scored a season-high 12 points with eight rebounds. Garrett Keller contributed with 10 points.

The Yellow Jackets faced a 17-11 deficit through the first quarter, but strong defense shut down the Wildcats in the second and helped Moorefield to a 30-20 lead at halftime. That lead grew to 47-20 by the end of the third.

Pendleton got 14 points from both Evan Arrington and Logan Raines.

Caleb Kite scored 14 points in Moorefield’s 33-28 junior varsity win. Pendleton’s Logan Cooper scored 10.

The Yellow Jackets (6-6) play at Pocahontas on Friday.
