No. 4 Southern beats Frankfort

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Alex Fike scored a season high 18 points as fourth-ranked Southern handled Frankfort, 53-34, in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference boys basketball game Wednesday evening.

Ryan Carr added eight points and Lucas Ritchie, Brian Wildman and Reese Haskiell had seven for Southern (7-8, 6-5 AMAC), who held Frankfort (4-10, 3-7) to a season low 34 points.

The Rams outscored the Falcons 14-5 in the second quarter for a 24-11 halftime lead. It was 39-21 after three quarters.

Chase Detrick led Frankfort (4-10, 3-7) with seven points.

Southern won the jayvee game 39-29. Travis Newton had 14 points for the Rams and Brooks Mickey had 11 for the Falcons.

Southern also won the freshman game 45-40. Matt McCullough had 13 points for Southern and Jake Young a game-high 19 for Frankfort.

On Friday, Southern will host Keyser and Frankfort entertains Mountain Ridge in tripleheaders that begin with freshman games at 4:15.

SALISBURY, Pa. — Wade Walker led five double-figure scorers with 18 points as Shade overpowered Salisbury.

Brock Medva added 13, Jeremy Pyles had 12 and Nash Walker and Cody Kiser 10 for Shade, which led 39-8 at halftime.

Nathan Bodes had nine points for Salisbury (1-13), which plays Turkeyfoot on Friday.

HAMBLETON, W.Va. — Tyler Snyder scored 32 points to lead Tucker County to a 65-42 win over visiting Petersburg on Tuesday night.

Snyder scored 12 points in the first quarter as the Mountain Lions, No. 3 in the Class A state poll, exploded offensively to end the quarter with a  25-9 lead.

The Vikings came back with an 11-9 second quarter, using solid defense to limit Tucker County to only two field goals, as the Mountain Lions took a 34-20 halftime lead.

Both teams struggled early in the third quarter and Tucker County stretched the lead to 19 entering the fourth. The closest Petersburg got the rest of the way was 13 points.

Ian Nichols added 18 points for Tucker County. Marshall Wratchford led Petersburg with 17 points. Trevor Harman had eight points, Grant Shanholtz seven and four steals and Brian George seven points and 11 rebounds.

Petersburg (5-8) travels to Berkeley Springs on Friday.

Tucker County won the jayvee game 68-55. Owen Evans had 17 points and Derek Zirk 16 for Tucker. Jace Shanholtz had 22 points and hit six three-point goals for Petersburg. Brandon Seabolt had 16 points and Ryan VanMeter 10 and five assists.
