Falcons stun No. 1 Rams

Maddie Pfaff’s 22 points leads 51-38 upset

— SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Maddie Pfaff dropped 22 points to lead unranked Frankfort to a 51-38 upset victory over No. 1 Southern at Frankfort High School Friday evening.

Southern (15-2) was 12-0 in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference coming in.

The Falcons got off to a 16-8 start but stumbled a bit in the second and still managed to lead 21-14 at the break.

In each of the next two quarters, the Rams scored 12 but Frankfort hit for 15 to clinch the upset.

Katie Jan added 14 points for the Falcons.

Alicia Roth scored 11 and Raeslee Weimer had 10 in the loss.

Frankfort also won the jayvee game, 37-32, behind 10 points and nine blocks from Autumn Cox. Brianna Evans led the Rams with 13.

Frankfort (9-10, 6-7 in the AMAC) hosts Allegany Monday at 6 p.m.

Southern will look to bounce back at Keyser Monday at 7:30 p.m.

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Two girls scored in double figures and balanced scoring allowed Hampshire to pull away from Northern 60-31 on Senior Night at Hampshire High School Friday night.

 Mary Feaster led the Trojans with 14 points and Taylor Harwood added 10. Alexis Nickleson scored nine, Ericka Gordon eight, Allyson Fout had six and Lindsay Long five.

Northern’s Kirsten Rayner finished with a team-high 14 points. She was the only Husky to score in double figures as no one else scored more than four points.

The Trojans led by two, 13-11, after the first quarter then held Northern to four points in the second while hitting for 14 to take a 27-15 lead at halftime. It was 39-25 after the third quarter.

Nickleson led the Trojans with eight rebounds and Harwood had five steals.

Hampshire had no trouble in the junior varsity game, winning 59-22. Katie LaFollette led with 15 points. B. Buckel had nine for Northern.

Hampshire (8-11) hosts Elkins Monday evening. The junior varsity game will tip off at 5:15 p.m. with the varsity to follow at 7 p.m. Northern (4-14) hosts Mountain Ridge Monday at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
