Mtn. Ridge rocks Alco

FROSTBURG — Third-ranked Mountain Ridge handled Allegany, 51-40, to win their eighth consecutive game Friday at Mountain Ridge.

Carlie Lewis led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds. Anna Broadwater and Shae Winner each had 14 points and six rebounds.

The Miners maintained a slim lead throughout the first half, they were up 12-8 after one and 24-18 at the break, but they opened up an 18-point advantage going into the fourth where they held on to win.

Courtney Landis led the Campers with 14 and Keke Paige had 12.

Amy Blank put in 12, while Lexi Metz scored 11 and Molly Winner added 10 to lead the Miners’ jayvees, 42-20. Alicia Younger had seven and Brianna Fagen chipped in six for the Campers.

Mountain Ridge (17-3, 12-3 in AMAC) play at Bishop Walsh Monday at 7:30.

Allegany (11-9, 6-9 in AMAC) play at Bishop Walsh today at 2:30.

Cumberland Valley    24  

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Karly Hipsley recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead Calvary, 52-24, at Cumberland Valley Friday.

The win secures the No. 3 seed in the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference Tournament.

After a 12-6 start, the Eagles opened up a 27-9 halftime lead.

Cumberland Valley continued to struggle, scoring just four points in the third quarter.

Payton Emerick had 12 points and three steals. Savannah Reed added 10 points for the Eagles.

Emily Ocker scored six in the loss.

Calvary (14-7, 7-5 in MDCC) hosts Broadfording Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the MDCC Tournament.

Paw Paw    26

SALISBURY, Pa. — Kaylyn McKenzie put in 15 points to lead Salisbury in a 46-26 win over Paw Paw in their regular season finale at Salisbury Friday.

The Elks followed a 16-10 first with a 13-8 second to go up 11 at halftime.

They extended their lead to 20 after three and went on to win by that margin.

Shiann Groah blocked 14 shots to go with six points. Andrea Rodriguez led Paw Paw with nine points.

Brynne Kemp pulled down 19 rebounds to go with 10 points. Emily Lowery grabbed 15 rebounds to go with nine points for the Elks.

Salisbury ends the season 2-18.

Paw Paw (5-19) play at East Hardy to end their season Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Moorefield    36

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Brittani Bible gathered 28 points as the game’s leading scorer and Petersburg pulled away from Moorefield in the second quarter for a seven-point win Friday in the Vikings regular season finale.

Bible hit 10 field goals and converted eight of 12 at the foul line to tally 28. Samantha Rohrbaugh was the team’s next leading scorer with four points.

Moorefield got 14 points from Courtney Parker and seven more form Megan Crites, Shayna Vetter and Taylor Zuber.

The first quarter horn sounded with the score tied at 13, and Petersburg outscored the Yellow Jackets 13-4 in the second quarter.

The Vikings (7-13) begin the West Virginia AA Sectional playoffs on Tuesday at Berkeley Springs.

  • Carr has 10 RBIs as Northern splits pair

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.
