PSC, Hagerstown split twinbill

KEYSER, W.Va. — Ahead 6-3 with two outs gone in the top of the fifth inning, Hagerstown came out of a 45-minute rain delay to score five runs and win the first half of a doubleheader 12-3 before Potomac State rallied to win the second, 8-4, during a split on Wednesday afternoon in Keyser.

Hagerstown scored four times in the second and twice in the third to take a 6-3 lead after PSC scored once in each of the first three innings. The Catamounts then were one out away from getting out of the fifth when rain caused a delay. Upon returning, the Hawks scored five more times before being retired, and Potomac State was unable to do anything else in the final four innings.

Morgan Purdham hit a solo home run in the win and Haley Thorne added three singles.

For Potomac State, Tori Phillips hit two singles and Morgan Wright a double.

The Cats (21-5) finished the day with the four-run victory on the back of two Frankfort graduates. Taylor Rice had three singles and two RBIs, while Savannah Hose hit a double and a single.

Hagerstown got two singles from Sarah Mullan.

PSC scored twice in the first, once in the third and four more times in the fourth before finishing out with a run in the sixth. Hagerstown scored all four of its runs in the sixth.

The Catamounts play a doubleheader at home on Friday, 2 p.m., against Southern Maryland.
