Second-half goals lift MR over Bishop Walsh, 2-0

— FROSTBURG — Tyler Sisler and Dylan Shimko scored in a five-minute span early in the second half as second-ranked Mountain Ridge downed fifth-ranked Bishop Walsh, 2-0, Tuesday night.

Sisler snapped a scoreless tie by scoring on a pass from Patrick Kimble 2:06 into the second half. Shimko made it 2-0, on a feed from Hunter Africa, with 32:44 on the clock.

Mountain Ridge (3-0 overall, 3-0 Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference) dominated in shots 20-2 and in corner kicks 6-1. Jake Hafer made one save in goal for the Miners. Austin Crotts had five for Bishop Walsh (6-3, 2-3).

Mountain Ridge won the jayvee game 4-0. Hayden DeHaven and Robin Godfrey had two goals, Allan Green had two assists and Andrew Kerling one assist.

The Mountain Ridge Shootout is this weekend. The boys shootout begins Friday when Preston plays Washington at 6 o’clock. On Saturday, Mountain Ridge will play Preston at 2 p.m. and Washington at 8 p.m.

Bishop Walsh plays at Calvary on Thursday at 4:30.

No. 3 Northern 5, Hyndman 1

ACCIDENT — Jeff Beal scored four goals to lead the No. 3-ranked and undefeated Northern Huskies to a 5-1 win over Hope for Hyndman Charter.

Hope for Hyndman took a 1-0 lead when Micah Stair scored at 24:00 of the first on an assist by Trenton Shoemaker.

The Huskies, however, led by Beal, would not trail again after the senior scored a minute later on a Blake Meyers assist, then gave the Huskies the lead at 6:00 on an assist by Jacob Williams to make it 2-1 at the half.

In the second half, Beal scored at 28:00 on an assist by Diego Riesco, then finished his big night with a goal assisted by Williams at 11:00. The final goal came at 4:00 when Zach Voelkel scored on an assist by Andrew Moser.

Northern outshot the Hornets, 21-2, while both teams had a corner kick.

The Hyndman goalkeeper had 14 saves, while Northern’s Alex Durst saved one.

Northern (3-0) will play in the Fort Hill tournament Saturday at Greenway Avenue Stadium. Hope for Hyndman (2-6) will visit Fannett-Metal Friday at 4 p.m.

Calvary 2, Faith 1

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Conor Wilson scored the go-ahead goal in the opening minutes of the second half and it stood as the game-winner as Calvary downed Faith 2-1 in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference match.

Both teams scored unassisted goals in the first half. Preston Porter put Faith ahead with 28 minutes left in the half. Calvary’s Tyler Heavner tied it a minute later.

Wilson’s tie-breaking goal came on an assist from Caleb Snyder with 35 minutes remaining in the second half.

Calvary (4-2 overall, 4-1 MDCC) led in shots 12-8 and both teams had three corner kicks. Matt Dillow made three saves in goal for the Eagles. William Peifer had two for Faith.

Calvary will host Bishop Walsh on Thursday at 4:30 at Liberty Field.
