BW wins City match

CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh came in with a team score of 182 to defeat Fort Hill, which finished with 189, and Allegany at 206, in high school golf play Thursday at Cumberland Country Club.

Brennan McMullen and Lucas McGill led the Spartans, both with scores of 39, while Fort Hill’s Josh Lutton was the low medalist at 38. Allegany was led by Keegan Ott with 41.

The three teams will meet again Monday at Fore Sisters for the City Championships.

Keyser wins consecutive matches

DAVIS, W.Va. — Keyser's Matt Landes capped a solid two days of golf with a birdie on his final hole for the second day in a row, posting back-to-back two-under-par rounds to lead the Golden Tornado to victories in matches at Polish Pines on Wednesday and at Canaan Valley Resort State Park on Thursday.

Landes shot a 32 to lead Keyser over Frankfort, Petersburg and Union at Polish Pines. His round consisted of four birdies — including three straight on holes five through seven — and two bogies as the Golden Tornado finished with 165. Petersburg was second with 176 and Frankfort had 190. Union only had three players participate.

Both Travis Smith and Logan Stanislawczyk shot 40s for Keyser. Ryan Colaw and Bill George each led Petersburg with 41s and Jake Phares had a 41 for Frankfort. Chris Sullivan added a 46 for the Vikings and the Falcons' Jack Doepker and Nick Smith each shot 48s.

Travis Murphy led Union's threesome with a 53.

At Canaan Valley, Landes fired a 34 in a round that included three birdies and a bogey on the par 36 front nine as Keyser defeated Tucker County, Morgantown's Trinity and East Hardy.

The Golden Tornado finished with 124, Tucker County 139, Trinity 141 and East Hardy 160 as the top three scores from each team were counted.

Smith and Stanislawczyk fired a 43 and 47 for Keyser while Ian Nichols led the Mountain Lions with a 46 and Brandon Carr had a 47. Trinity's Dominic Raymond III and Matt Diugos each finished with 44s and East Hardy's Ian Im had a 50.

Frankfort and Keyser have one more match before the regionals when both will play Bishop Walsh at the Cumberland Country Club on Thursday starting at 4 p.m. The West Virginia Class AA, Region II 10-team tournament will be held Monday, Sept. 30, at the Pete Dye Course in Bridgeport beginning at 9 a.m.

Southern captures Garrett County title

McHENRY — Southern won the Garrett County championship with a team score of 179 to Northern’s 191 Thursday at Lodestone Golf Club.

Bryce Friend and Matt McCullough both shot 41 for Southern. Brady Benton shot 41 for Northern.

The Garrett County Championship was the final match of the season for both teams.
