POTOMAC PARK — Allegany played both ends of the victory scale Saturday during the Mountain Ridge Easter Tournament, slugging its way to a 10-run win over Preston County before squeezing a run home in the bottom of the sixth inning to sneak past Smithsburg and finish the day with a pair of wins.
Chris Fram connected on a grand slam in the fifth inning and had a total of six runs batted in to lead the Campers to a 13-3 win over Preston, while Trenton Eirich squeezed in the game-winning run for a 6-5 win over the Leopards.
The Campers led 4-3 going into the home half of the fifth inning against the Knights when Fram got into a pitch with the bases loaded as part of a seven-run inning. Fram added two more doubles and had a total of six runs batted in as the Campers won in six innings.
Carter Imes added a double and a single, and Wade McGee singled twice for two RBIs. Eirich had two RBIs on a single and pitched into the fifth inning before being relieved by Bryce Nightengale.
Allegany (3-0) held a 4-1 lead over the Leopards through three innings and led 5-3 after the fifth, but Smithsburg scored two times in the sixth to knot the score at 5-5.
Ryan Murphy, who had three singles total, started the Allegany seventh with a base hit back up the middle. He advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Dylan Shockey, before Eirich laid down the winning bunt.
Fram and Imes joined Eirich with two singles each in the one-run win.
The Campers return home to play Northern at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Mtn. Ridge wins two
POTOMAC PARK — Logan Cheshire’s pinch hit, walk-off single in the ninth inning gave Mountain Ridge an 8-7 win over Smithsburg, followed by a 12-2 demolition of Preston at the Mountain Ridge Easter Tournament at the Hot Stove Complex on Saturday.
Patrick Kimble singled and reached second on an error with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. After Jake Kyle was intentionally walked, Cheshire’s base hit brought in Kimble.
Kyle reached base on all six of his at-bats, including a triple, single and four walks. Josh VanMeter had a bases clearing triple in the Miners’ four-run fourth. Jared Wilson and Tucker Burley each drove in two runs.
Zach Krall drove in two runs for Smithsburg.
VanMeter drove in three more in the 12-2 victory over Preston.
Cheshire had a two-run double. Kyle, Blake Bender and Patrick Russell each added RBI singles.
Mountain Ridge (2-0) plays at Fort Hill on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Southern loses opener
INWOOD, W.Va. — Nick Haman fired a perfect game in four innings for Musselman in a 10-0 win, followed by a 22-0 rout of Southern at Musselman on Saturday.
Haman struck out eight of the 12 hitters he faced. Jacob Whitmore drove in two on two singles. Thomas Presley and Jarin Jenkins each had RBI singles for the Applemen.
The Rams were able to drop in three hits in a 22-0 loss in the second game.
The Applemen needed just eight hits to score 22 runs, including a 12-run third inning. Tyler Gross had a two-run triple. Ashton Meyers knocked two singles and Presley added an RBI single.
Southern (0-2) will look to bounce back at Petersburg Wednesday at 6 p.m.
