MR rallies to beat FH

CUMBERLAND — Mountain Ridge scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to come from behind to defeat Fort Hill 7-4 Tuesday afternoon at Bowers Field.

The Miners outhit the Sentinels 9-8 and used a squeeze play in the fifth inning by Jared Wilson to score Patrick Kimble that gave Mountain Ridge a 4-3 lead, its first of the game.

In the sixth and tied at 4-4, Jake Kyle drove in two runs with a base hit and then scored on Kimble’s RBI base hit that led to Mountain Ridge’s eventual victory.

The Sentinels had the tying run at the plate when the final out was recorded.

Kyle had two singles and Kimble two hits, including a double, to lead Mountain Ridge.

Fort Hill took a 3-1 lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Colton Dicks and Adam Duvall also had an RBI. He finished with two hits including a double.

Fort Hill (0-2) hosts Southern at Bowers Field on Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Ridge (3-0) visits Allegany on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

CUMBERLAND — Jerad Fike tossed a four-hitter and belted a double and single to lead Northern over Allegany in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference action Tuesday afternoon.

Northern, which finished with 12 hits, took a 1-0 lead in the third and never trailed. It was 3-1 after four innings, the the Huskies adding single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Fike struck out six and walked two in a complete-game win.

Jeremy Bender went 3 for 4 with three singles and an RBI, Aaron Rodeheaver was 3 for 5 with three singles and Trevon Jones had two singles and an RBI for Northern (1-2, 1-0 AMAC).

Carter Imes had an RBI single for Allegany (3-1, 1-1). Bryce Nightengale struck out seven and walked two in six innings.

Allegany will host Keyser in a makeup game today at 4:30 p.m. and hosts Mountain Ridge on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Northern will make its home debut today, against Salisbury, at 4:30 p.m.

FRANKLIN, W.Va. — Thane Cutter tripled, singled and knocked in a pair of runs as Frankfort scored nine times in its final two at-bats to beat Pendleton.

Frankfort (4-3) trailed 5-1 after two innings and 6-2 after four. The Falcons grabbed their first lead with a five-run sixth, then tacked on four insurance runs in the seventh.

Colton Dorsey hit two singles and Hunter Jenkins had an RBI single for Frankfort, which finished with 11 hits. Reliever Garrett Shoemaker threw two scoreless innings and got the win.

Logan Raines hit a solo homer and two singles and Jesse Lambert had a two-run single in a four-run first for Pendleton (2-4).

Frankfort visits Petersburg on Thursday and Pendleton plays at Tygarts Valley on Friday.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Petersburg rallied from a 3-0 deficit by outscoring Keyser 6-1 over the final four innings.

The Vikings (7-1) took the lead with a four-run fourth, then added two more runs in the fifth. Winning pitcher Brian George drove in a run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly and Josh Inskeep hit an RBI double in the fifth.

George tossed a five-hitter and struck out nine. Doug Lambert and Justin Smith led an eight-hit attack, each going 2 for 2 with two singles.

Vinnie Cuthbertson and Connor Housel hit RBI singles and Cody Eversole doubled for Keyser.

Petersburg hosts Southern today. The jayvees play at 3:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow. Keyser plays at Allegany today at 4:30 p.m.

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Jared Kite delivered the winning hit in the opener and added two more in the second game as Moorefield took two from Berkeley Springs Monday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets edged the Indians 6-5 in eight innings to win the first game, and used a four-run third inning to win 8-2 and complete the sweep.

Garrett Keller drove in three runs on two singles, but it was Kite who had his most important in the bottom of the eighth to finish off the Indians. Lance Taylor singled and moved to second, and scored when Kite, with two outs and two strikes, put a ball over the head of the left fielder to score Taylor for the win.

Tyler Smith went 2-for-3 with one run batted in for the Yellow Jackets.

In the 8-2 win, Moorefield scored its first two runs during its first at bats, then added four runs in the third. They finished scoring with two in the bottom of the sixth.

Kite had two hits and two runs scored, DeShawn Brown had two singles, two runs and one RBI and Austin Williams pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Kyle Appel had two hits and one RBI for the Indians, while Tyler Holt had a single, RBI and two runs.

Moorefield (4-3) plays at Elkins on Friday.
