Keyser, Frankfort runners split meet

KEYSER, W.Va. — Keyser’s Leland Henderson won the boys meet with a personal best time and Frankfort’s Julianna Butcher won the girls in a cross country dual Tuesday afternoon.

Keyser took the boys meet 26-29. The Frankfort girls had a perfect score, winning 15-50.

Henderson and Frankfort’s Lucas Young set the pace in the boys race, running the first mile in 5:21, and continued to separate themselves from the rest of the pack over the second mile. Henderson attacked the final mile and pulled away, breaking his best time from his freshman season and finishing with a mark of 17:58.

Young was second in 19:05, and Frankfort’s Jason Detrick took third in 19:14.

Butcher took the lead in the girls race from the start and never looked back as Frankfort runners filled the first seven spots.

Butcher won in 23:29 and was followed by teammates Cassidy White in 24:54 and India Yates in 25:51.

Frankfort and Keyser will run in the Geico Classic on Saturday in Ona.
