Mountain Ridge hands Frankfort its first loss, 2-0

FROSTBURG — Tessa Lutton scored late in the first half, Lexie Metz scored late in the second, and the Mountain Ridge defense did the rest as the Miners handed Frankfort its first loss, 2-0, in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference girls soccer Thursday evening.

Lutton broke a scoreless tie by finding the net on an assist from Niven Hegeman 7:34 before halftime.

It remained a 1-0 struggle until Metz scored with 13:01 remaining on a pass from Erica Wilson.

“I thought Frankfort, for most of the first half, dominated the game and in the second half we did,’’ said Mountain Ridge coach Martha Mauzy. “We only had three shots in the first half.

“It was a nice team win for us,” said Mauzy, whose team played without injured midfielder and co-captain Anna Broadwater.

The Miners got off 13 shots in the second half, and ended up with a 16-9 advantage. They also led in corner kicks, 3-2.

Both goalies, Mountain Ridge’s Chelsea Muir and Frankfort’s Brooke Snyder, had seven saves.

Frankfort (5-1-1, 1-1 AMAC) hosts Petersburg on Saturday at 11 a.m. Mountain Ridge (3-0, 3-0) plays at Allegany on Tuesday in a varsity only game at 6 p.m.

Allegany 4, Bishop Walsh 1

CUMBERLAND — Murphy Taube scored twice in the first half and Tallia Logsdon scored twice in the second, lifting Allegany past Bishop Walsh in the City League opener for both teams at Greenway Avenue Stadium.

Taube began the scoring on an assist from Tarryn Logsdon in the 17th minute, then made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal just before halftime.

Tallia Logsdon boosted the lead to 3-0 by scoring on a feed from Alex Whiteman midway through the second half, and scored again in the 69th minute to make it 4-0. Marion Irvin scored an unassisted goal for Bishop Walsh one minute later.

Tori Bohrer made four saves in goal for Allegany and Abbey Workmeister had five for BW.

Allegany (1-0-2 overall, 1-0 AMAC, 1-0 City) will host Mountain Ridge on Monday at 6 p.m. Bishop Walsh (1-2, 1-2, 0-1) plays at St. Maria Goretti on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Allegany had opened its season with a pair of scoreless draws against Northern and Southern in the Fort Hill Sentinel Classic last week. Bohrer had nine saves in goal against Northern and three against Southern.
