ALTOONA, Pa. — Adria Graham scored two goals to lead Frostburg State to a 4-1 victory over Penn State-Altoona in its regular season finale Wednesday afternoon.
Both of Graham’s goals came in the second half and pushed her season total to a conference-leading 21. The junior forward increased the Bobcat (13-3-1) lead to 3-1 shortly after the second half began when she got turned around and took a shot off a deflection just inside the 18-yard box from freshman Brooke Longo.
Graham second’s goal came at 68:30. Senior Liz Seligman headed a pass Graham’s way off a free kick that Graham sent home to push the FSU lead to 4-1.
Sophomore Stephanie Fazenbaker opened the scoring for both teams in the 19th minute when she took a feed from Seligman that she was able to head past the goalie. Freshman Chelsie McCoy entered the game at 28:17 and at 28:40 put the Bobcats up 2-0 after taking a pass from junior Courtney Mack from the right side of the box.
Just under a minute later, Penn State- Altoona (3-15) cut the FSU lead to 2-1. Katy Hartigan found Anne Valiando just outside the right corner of the net and Valiando was able to slip it past FSU’s Katie Smith.
The Bobcats held a commanding 28-4 advantage in shots and led 3-1 in corner kicks. Smith needed just three saves in the win while the Altoona goalies Mackensize Strubhar and Katy Cook split the game in the net, each making seven saves.
Because of last Friday’s win over Marymount, the Bobcats earned a first round bye in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament that begins Saturday. FSU will play the winner of the No. 3 York (Pa.)/No. 6 Wesley match up in the semifinals. The game is set for Tuesday, 6 p.m., at Bobcat Stadium.
