Former Alco star slams three homers

FREDERICK — Freshman Alexa Sivic belted three home runs to lead the Hood College softball team to a  4-1, 8-6 sweep of Elizabethtown on Friday.

Sivic, a 2012 graduate and former standout at Allegany High, hit her first collegiate homer, a solo shot, in the first game.

In the second, Hood was held to just two hits over five innings before Carly Farr and Sivic hit back-to-back homers in the sixth to tie the game 3-3. Elizabethtown led 6-4 in the top of the ninth, but Hood scored twice in the bottom of the inning and won it when Sivic belted a two-run, walk-off homer.

Hood is 3-1 after four games, and Sivic is batting .417 (5 for 12) with three home runs and four RBIs.

 

Frostburg pair compete­ in New York

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Frostburg State’s Alexis Bush and Morgan Carroll participated in the ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday and Saturday in New York City.

Bush placed 13th in the long jump with a season-best distance of 5.27 meters. Carroll finished 17th in the high jump at 1.54 meters.

Frostburg State’s first outdoor meet is March 16 at Lynchburg (Va.) College.
