Moorefield defeats East Hardy

Yellow Jackets win 11th straight, take playoff opener, 10-1

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Katelynn Wills highlighted a five-run first inning with a two-run home run and Taylor Zuber scattered seven hits to lead Moorefield over East Hardy 10-1 in six innings in the first game of the West Virginia Class A, Region 2, Section 4 playoff series Tuesday evening.

The Yellow Jackets, winners of 11 straight, will try to sweep the series tonight at East Hardy beginning at 7 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will be Thursday evening in Moorefield.

Moorefield (23-3) finished with 11 hits led by Beth Cook’s three doubles in four atbats. She drove in a run and scored twice. Brooke Riggleman and Zuber each had two hits with Riggleman scoring a run and getting an RBI. Wills also scored on an error.

Morgan Mongold went 2 for 3 and scored East Hardy’s lone run in the third inning. The Cougars drop to 14-9.

Zuber struck out six and gave up two walks in going the distance.

Moorefield led 5-0 after the first inning, 7-1 through three, 8-1 after five and ended the game with two runs in the sixth.
