Wizards sign Drew Gooden
for rest of season
WASHINGTON (AP) — Forward Drew Gooden signed a contract to play for the Washington Wizards for the rest of this season.
The deal, which comes after the 32-year-old Gooden had two consecutive 10-day contracts with Washington, was announced by the team Monday.
In his first eight games with the Wizards, Gooden averaged 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 14.6 minutes.
The 6-foot-10 forward is in his 12th NBA season.
stay with Redskins
WASHINGTON (AP) — Safety Brandon Meriweather is returning to the Washington Redskins.
The Redskins announced Tuesday that Meriweather has re-signed after a week of testing free agency.
Meriweather returns for a third season in Washington, playing a position the Redskins hope to upgrade. His last two years have been marred by injuries and reckless play, including head-first hits that have drawn fines and a suspension from the NFL. He started 13 games last year and had two interceptions.
Pass defense is a top offseason priority for the Redskins, but they failed to land one of the top safeties available during the first several days of free agency.
