Mtn. Ridge reels off 23-point win

FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge employed an 18-9 third quarter to open up an 18-point lead on Boonsboro and the Miners buried all attempts at a Warriors comeback to capture their first win of the year, 74-51, Wednesday in Frostburg.

Three Miners found their way to double digits in scoring with Rashawn Johnson leading the way with 14 on the strength of four three-pointers. Josh Halbritter made six field goals to added 12 points and Michael Livingston made his way to 10.

Following a late start caused by Boonsboro running into traffic problems, Mountain Ridge pulled out to a 14-12 lead after one quarter and were ahead 32-23 at halftime. The Miners made their move in the third to take the 18-point lead and wound up winning by 23.

Justin Halbritter scored 19 points in the Miners’ 49-31 jayvee win. Hayden Lindsey added 16 points and Lucas Lowry 12.

Mountain Ridge (1-1) plays a tripleheader at Keyser on Monday with the freshman game starting at 4:15.
