Burley bulls Miners past Falcons

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Tucker Burley fired a four-hitter and Michael Strietbeck and Jake Kyle had six hits to lead Mountain Ridge to an 11-2 win over Frankfort in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference baseball on Thursday

The Miners (8-4, 6-2 AMAC) broke open a 3-2 game with a three-run sixth inning, then iced things with five more runs in the seventh.

Strietbeck hit three singles, scored two runs and had four RBIs while Kyle added three singles, two runs and an RBI in leading a 15-hit attack. Josh VanMeter, Logan Cheshire and Josh Delaney added two singles each. VanMeter had two RBIs and Cheshire two runs scored.

Burley scattered four singles, struck out six and walked two.

Cole Smith hit two singles and knocked in two runs for Frankfort (9-9, 5-3).

Mountain Ridge visits Southern today. The game was the fourth in three days for Frankfort, which plays a doubleheader at R.C. Byrd on Saturday.

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. — Trailing 5-4 going into the top of the fourth inning, Salisbury scored four times to take a three-run lead and would win 8-6 over Shanksville to move within a game of .500.

Doug Foy slapped three singles, Roberto Pattison hit a double and a single, while Dan Brown, Matt Geiger and Brandon Bodes all hit three singles. The Elks collected 14 hits as a team.

Salisbury (3-4) scored once in its first at bats and added three runs in the second. Shanksville made it 4-2 during the second inning and then added three more runs in the third to go ahead 5-4. After Salisbury retook the lead, Shanksville managed to score one more run in the fifth and were retire in order during the seventh.

Joe Hudak and Levi Brant had three hits apiece in the loss.

The Elks are off until Tuesday when they visit Rockwood.

Allegany-Northern game suspended

ACCIDENT — Thursday’s Allegany-Northern game was tied 6-6 after 12 innings when it was suspended by darkness at Northern.

The teams hope to today confirm a date when the game will be resumed.

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.
