Redinger leads Allegany to sweep

CUMBERLAND — Ryan Redinger pitched four innings of relief to earn the win in the first game, then had three hits and knocked in three runs in the second as Allegany evened its in Maryland JUCO Conference record with a 7-6, 9-4 sweep of Essex Saturday at The Rock.

The wins make the Trojans 18-16 overall, 10-10 in the JUCO and 8-8 against Division II teams. They play a non-conference doubleheader today at noon at CCAC-South.

Redinger entered in the fourth and was trailing 6-2 going into the bottom of the inning when Allegany scored three runs to cut it to a one-run lead. The Trojans added two more runs in the fifth to take the lead.

Redinger fanned six and allowed only one run.

Brandon Miller hit a solo home run, his third of the year, and Blayne McGuirk had three hits and three RBIs.

Essex’s Zach Stampley drove in two runs with a single.

In the second game, Redinger hit a double and two singles to plate three runs, Pat Livingston had two singles and an RBI and Miller and Jeff Morgan had a triple and an RBI.

Drew O’Neal struck out four in three innings to earn his second save.

MCHENRY — Dundalk scored in every inning but the third in routing Garrett in the opener, then had to sweat out four innings to edge the Lakers in the closing game of a Maryland JUCO twinbill.

Kevin Welsh connected on a three-run home run, added four singles and had four RBIs as Dundalk slapped 14 hits to win the first game.

Garrett’s Carlos King had a double and a single.

In the second game, Dundalk snapped a 2-2 tie with two runs in the third inning Welsh led the Lions with a double, single and an RBI.

Garrett pitcher Tyler Lawrence had nine strikeouts in the loss.

Dundalk escaped a sixth-inning bases-loaded jam by getting Lawrence on a line out.

The Lakers (17-26, 6-13 Maryland JUCO) will entertain Westmoreland in a noon doubleheader today.
