11-0 Miners roll over BW

FH rallies to beat Northern

— FROSTBURG  — Jenna Miller and Emma Baker each went 3-for-3 and top-ranked Mountain Ridge scored eight times in the first inning during a 15-0 win over Bishop Walsh Monday afternoon during an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference match-up in Frostburg.

Miller had a pair of doubles and added a triple for her three hits, while Baker singled and added two doubles. Starting pitcher Carlie Lewis, the defending Times-News Player of the Year, hit a two-run home run and a single for a total of three RBIs. Her home run came as part of a three-run second inning that pushed the Miners’ lead to 11-0.

Amanda DuVall doubled twice and Anna Broadwater put up two singles as the Miners pounded out 18 hits.

Lewis started and threw the first two innings and collected five strikeouts. Miller had six strikeouts and allowed one hit, a single by Alyssa Cotton.

After scoring eight runs in the first inning, the Miners scored three times in the second and third and then twice more in the fourth for their 15 runs.

Mountain Ridge remains unbeaten at 11-0 (10-0 AMAC) and will host Allegany today at 4 o’clock. The Spartans (0-9, 0-6) play at home against Hyndman at 4:30 p.m.

ACCIDENT — Alesha Jackson and Emma Bauer homered for No. 3 Fort Hill, which shook off fourth-ranked Northern’s three-run first inning and scored eight runs over the final two innings to pick up a 10-run rule win over the Huskies Monday on Senior Night at Long Field.

Both Jackson and Bauer sent their home runs to the same part of the field — left-center — with Jackson’s leaving the park on a line drive and Bauer’s being a towering shot over the fence. Bauer’s shot happened with two runners on, and Jackson’s was a solo shot, while both hitters added a single.

Alexis Kimmell hit two doubles and two singles and pitcher Michala Garrison had a double.

Garrison struck out four batters in a complete game.

For Northern, Tiffany Glover hit a double.

Fort Hill (9-5, 7-3 AMAC) plays at Southern on Thursday. Northern (7-4, 5-4 AMAC) is at Mountain Ridge on Wednesday.

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Cierra Funk recorded nine strikeouts on the hill and a triple and single at the plate to lead Hampshire past Keyser in an AMAC  contest.

The Trojans (4-13, 1-9 AMAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the third to build a 6-1 lead. They scored the final two runs in the sixth. Keyser scored once in the third, fifth and sixth innings and then twice in the seventh.

Stephanie Largent singled three times for Hampshire, with Brittany Kesner, Tori Reynolds and Jordan Snyder all singled twice.

The Golden Tornado got four hits from Lexi Carr, a triple and three singles. Katie Hoban hit a triple and a single, Sam Hoban hit a double and a single and Erica White hit two singles.

Hampshire (4-13) plays Wednesday at Frankfort. Keyser (6-7) is at Berkeley Springs today.

MEYERSDALE, Pa. — Jessica Ringler drove in four runs wirth the bat and relied on her arm to throw a two-hitter as Hope for Hyndman blanked Meyersdale in six innings Monday afternoon.

Kayla Wilt swung the biggest stick for the Hornets, driving in five runs with a triple, double and a single. Ringler got her four RBIs on a double, and Katie Cosgrove had a double, single and one RBI.

The Hornets scored five runs in their first at bats, made it 6-0 in the second and jumped ahead 9-0 in the third. They scored their final five runs in the top of the sixth.

Hyndman (5-5) will play at Bishop Walsh today at 4:30.
