Ross rallies Bishop Walsh; Paw Paw wins in overtime

CRESAPTOWN — Nicole Ross scored all seven of her points in the fourth quarter to help fuel a late-game rally that lifted Bishop Walsh to a 37-33 victory over Calvary Christian in high school girls basketball Tuesday night.

Ross hit a field goal and five free throws in the fourth quarter for the Spartans, who trailed 25-18 going into the final period.

Maggie Mathews had a team high eight points for the Spartans, who scored 28 points in the second half after being held to nine in the first. Breana Uhl had five points and eight rebounds and Maggie Czapski had six points and six steals.

Freshman Brooke Ricker had a game high 11 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds for Calvary Christian. Karly Hipsley also had a double-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and three steals, and Payton Emerick had five points, six rebounds and four steals.

Bishop Walsh (1-0) plays at Keyser tonight. Calvary (0-1) begins Mason-Dixon Conference play Thursday, at home, against Broadfording at 5:30.

Paw Paw 55, Fulton Co. 49

PAW PAW, W.Va. — Belle Harrold scored 24 points and hit a game-tying shot to force overtime to lead Paw Paw to a season-opening win over Fulton (Pa.) County Christian.

Harrold made nine field goals and 6 of 9 free throws to lead the Pirates. She also had six rebounds and three steals before fouling out during the overtime.

Alivia Snyder had a big night with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals and Brandi Kidwell had four points and 10 rebounds for the Bucs.

Jenoa Gordon led all scorers with six three-point goals and 28 points for Fulton County. Morgan Daniels had 17 points.

Paw Paw (1-0) trailed 46-44 when Harrold hit a shot just inside the three-point line with 1.9 seconds left to force overtime. Harrold had four points and Snyder went 3 for 4 from the foul line during the overtime to send the Pirates to the victory.

Paw Paw plays Friday at Union.

Hampshire 48, Elkins 30

ELKINS, W.Va. — Emilynn Corbin had 11 points and hit 7 of 8 foul shots to lead Hampshire to a season-opening 48-30 victory over Elkins.

Corbin led a balanced scoring attack that included Ericka Gordon and Mary Feaster getting seven points each and Brooke Harwood six.

“It’s always good to get a good win in the season opener especially on a long road trip. “I am just happy with the effort,” Hampshire coach Al Straley said.

Hampshire makes its home debut Friday night against Keyser
