Three Fort Hill players selected for Crab Bowl

Arigo, Bryant, Carlin on ‘Baltimore’ squad for game at McDaniel College

WESTMINSTER — Two weeks removed from a win over Douglass-Baltimore that culminated a state championship run, three Fort Hill Sentinels will play their final high school football game Saturday during the 2013 Maryland National Guard Crab Bowl Powered by UnderArmour.

Reigning Times-News Defensive Player of the Year Cody Arigo, Brennan Carlin and Preston Bryant will travel to McDaniel College as part of the “Baltimore” squad that will take on the “Washington” team Saturday, 1:30, at Kenneth R. Gill Stadium.

Playing as members of the Baltimore team, the trio of Sentinels will go through a development event tonight before playing as part of four games on Saturday. They will look to give Baltimore back-to-back wins after a 28-7 win last year, though the Washington team holds a 3-2 edge through five games.

Arigo recorded 105 total tackles on the season and led the Sentinels in sacks with 13 as a member of the defensive line. Carlin was a sack behind Arigo for the team lead with 12 and had 52 total tackles to go along with one blocked kick and one batted ball. Preston Bryant added 10 tackles, but along with Carlin, is scheduled to play on the offensive line Saturday. Arigo is listed on the roster as a defensive tackle.

All three players were members of an offensive front that helped Fort Hill pile up 4,541 yards and 59 touchdowns on the ground on the way to a 14-0 record.

Since 2008, senior players from across the state of Maryland and Washington D.C. have been coming together for an all-star game that pits students from Southern and Eastern Maryland and the Washington D.C. area against players from Northern and Western Maryland and the Baltimore area. Besides the high school showdown, there will also be 6th, 7th and 8th grade all-star games played Saturday.

Former alumni from the event include Dunbar High School’s Tavon Austin, who went on play at West Virginia University and is currently with the St. Louis Rams, and Good Counsel’s Jelani Jenkins, of the University of Florida and the Miami Dolphins.

A couple weeks after facing them at M&T Bank Stadium, Arigo, Carlin and Bryant will now become teammates of Donyae Moody, Daniel McManus and Antonio Thornton of the Douglass Ducks, the 25-0 victims of the Sentinels in the Maryland 1A championship.

The event is open to the public and tickets can be found in advance for $15 or at the gate for $20. More information can be obtained at www.marylandcrabbowl.com.
