FROSTBURG — James Peters hit a long three-pointer with a man in his face at the buzzer to lift Frostburg State to a 77-74 victory over York (Pa.) in Capital Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening at Bobcat Arena.

The game-winning bucket gave Peters 33 points, just one shy of his career high.

Tied at 74 with just seconds remaining, Aaron Bellamy hit a tightly-guarded Peters with an inbounds pass in front of the FSU bench. The left-hander caught the pass moving to his right and hoisted the game-winner as the horn blared.

The shot ended a game that featured 15 ties and 12 lead changes, with 10 of the lead changes coming in the second half. Two big rallies, one by each team, set up Peters’ buzzer-beater.

York's Mike Mathews hit a traditional three-point play with 9:26 left that gave the Spartans a 60-58 lead.

Frostburg (3-21, 2-14) rebounded moments later with a quick 7-0 spurt for a 71-62 lead with just 5:42 remaining. After trading baskets, the Spartans (4-20, 3-13) used the next 4:10 to inch back into the game. Joey Steinberg hit a three-pointer that started the run at 4:25 and later tied it at 74 with a free throw with 15 seconds left.

That left the Bobcats just enough time to grab the win.

Peters finished 12-of-24 from the floor with three three-point goals. Nick Smoot added 15 points and six assists and Jabari Kamau led all players with 11 rebounds.

Mathews had 20 points and nine rebounds, and Feinberg 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists for York.

Frostburg State ends its regular season on Saturday with a Senior Day game against Salisbury at 3 p.m.
