Showcase Tournament today at White Oaks

CUMBERLAND — The Showcase Tournament for the Allegany County Interscholastic Bowling League will be held at White Oak Lanes today.  

The boys tournament will begin bowling at 11 a.m. with awards around 1:15 p.m. The girls tournament will begin immediately after the boys awards ceremony at approximately 1:45 p.m.

LONACONING — The towns of Midland, Lonaconing and Barton will hold Little League registration today from 10 a.m. until noon at the Town Hall in each town.

Registration is for any player ages 4 through 12. Call Ted Baker at 301-379-7184 if there are any questions.


ASA soccer tryouts scheduled

CUMBERLAND — Allegany Soccer Alliance will be holding tryouts for its club soccer teams on Feb. 23 and March 2. It is recommended that players attend both tryout dates but they are only required to attend one.

Forms can be found on the ASA website,, and should be filled out prior to arrival. The tryout dates, which are also listed on the website, are:

• U18 boys (born Aug. 1, 1995 or later): Feb. 23, 8 to 9:30 p.m.; March 2, 8:30 to 10 a.m.

• U18 girls: Feb. 23 and March 2, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

• U 16 boys (born Aug. 1 1997 or later): Feb. 23 and March 2, 3:30 to 5 p.m.

• U14 boys (born Aug. 1, 1999 or later): Feb. 23 and March 2, 5 to 6:30 p.m.

• U12 boys (born Aug. 1, 2001 or later): Feb. 23 and March 2, 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The tryouts will be held on Frostburg State University’s turf. The auxiliary gym in the physical education center will serve as a backup if weather conditions prevent outdoor playing. Each player should bring outdoor soccer spikes, indoor soccer shoes, shin guards and clothing appropriate to wear outside or inside. All individuals participating in the tryout are also requested to bring water and a soccer ball for their personal use. There is a registration fee.
