ACCIDENT — Winning pitcher Savannah Leonard tripled, doubled, singled and scored four runs and Kiersten Coughenour homered as Meyersdale defeated Northern 13-3 Monday in high school softball.

Leonard scattered seven hits, struck out eight and did not walk a batter in the five-inning game.

Coughenour hit a solo home run in the second inning and had an RBI double in the third when the Red Raiders scored four times and increased their lead to 7-1. Isabella Miller belted a triple and single, had three RBIs and scored twice.

Morgan Marple led Northern with a triple, single and an RBI. Erica Umble pitched all five innings, walked four and fanned seven.

Northern (1-5) hosts Frankfort today at 4:30

Turkeyfoot 13, Bishop Walsh 3

CONFLUENCE, Pa. — Danielle Kemp and Nicole Snyder hit doubles to lead Turkeyfoot over visiting Bishop Walsh.

The Rams (1-2) made the most of six hits to get the win in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule. Karlie Kemp was the winning pitcher.

Bishop Walsh had six hits, all coming in a three-run fourth inning. Maggie Mathews, Rachel Duncan and Kait Miller had RBI singles for the Spartans (0-4), who host St. James today at 4:30.

Baseball

Moorefield 13-6, Frankfort 1-3

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Winning pitcher Dakota Vetter doubled and knocked in three runs in the opener, and Byron Dolly had two hits and two RBIs in the nitecap to lead Moorefield to a 13-1, 6-3 sweep of Frankfort in high school baseball on Saturday.

In the first game, shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule, Seth Stickley and Austin Williams, the No. 3 and 4 batters in the lineup, were a combined 4 for 6 with four runs scored and five RBIs.

Stickley had two singles and three RBIs and Williams two singles and two RBIs. Vetter allowed three hits and a run in 4 2-3 innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Gavin Mauzy doubled and singled for Frankfort, which had three errors that led to six unearned runs for the Yellow Jackets.

In the second game, Dolly had two singles and two RBIs and Wil Schoonover two singles and one RBI in leading Moorefield to its fourth win in a row. Tyler Smith doubled and singled for the Jackets, who led 4-0 after the first inning.

Garrett Shoemaker homered and doubled and Cole Smith and Braiden Popluhar singled twice for Frankfort.

Freshman Holden Sions allowed six hits and three runs in five innings for the win.

Moorefield (4-3) hosts Pendleton today. Frankfort (4-2) plays at Hampshire tonight at 7 p.m.
