Jones leads Northern’s 15-0 rout

SALISBURY, Pa. — Trevon Jones stroked three singles and knocked in a pair of runs and third-ranked Northern pounded out 14 hits in a 15-0, five-inning win at Salisbury Thursday evening.

Brett Oates tripled and singled, Hunter Hill doubled and singled and Meshach Metz had two singles and two RBIs for the Huskies (9-5), who broke open a 3-0 game with a nine-run fourth inning.

Aaron Rodeheaver added a double and three RBIs, Kollin Keister had a double and an RBI and Tyler McClintock and Damion Monroe a single and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Brooks Carr allowed only two hits, walked three and struck out nine.

Matt Geiger and Ross Mazer singled to account for Salisbury’s hits.

Northern was to host Southern on Friday. The Huskies entertain Mountain Ridge on Monday at 3:30. Salisbury hosts Paw Paw on Monday at 7:30.

OAKLAND — Southern and Mountain Ridge finished all-square in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference game suspended by darkness Thursday evening.

Southern’s Keith Chapman belted two home runs, one in the third inning and another in the fifth, and had two doubles to finish with eight RBIs.

Each team started hot, with four runs apiece in the first inning, and with the score tied 6-6 the Rams briefly regained control with a two-run fourth.

The Miners tied the game 8-8 in the top of the fifth and Southern seized control with a six-run fifth of its own — powered by a three-run Chapman homer.

The final two innings went the Miners way, scoring one in the sixth and adding five in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

The game was suspended in the bottom of the seventh with no makeup scheduled.

Southern (6-6-1, 5-3-1 AMAC) got a single and a double from Matt Imhoff for two RBIs with Derek Hinebaugh adding three hits and one RBI.

Mountain Ridge was led by Jake Hafer’s three RBIs on two singles. Jalen Washington added two RBIs and Zach Beal had one. Michael Livingston had three singles.

Southern will play today at Northern at 4:45 p.m. Mountain Ridge (7-3-1, 4-2-1) plays Saturday in the Somerset Tournament.

BERLIN, Pa. — Brendan Bowser hit a three-run home run and finished with five runs batted in on three hits to lead Berlin past Hope for Hyndman on Friday.

Besides connecting for a three-run home run in the third inning, Bowser delivered two other hits, both doubles, that brought home two more runs. Michael Gross had a single and two RBIs.

M.J. Messenger hit a two-run home run in the first inning for the Hornets and added a single.

Hyndman (2-7) will face Fannett-Metal on the road on Tuesday.
