CUMBERLAND — Christian Thomas scored 17 points, Bryce Nightengale had 16 and Trenton Eirich 15 as second-ranked Allegany fought off Fairmont Senior for a 76-70 victory in high school boys basketball Saturday afternoon at Campobello.
The Campers got the win in an uptempo, racehorse style of play for most of the afternoon to finish the regular season 10-0 at home. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games.
Allegany is 16-5 overall. Fairmont Senior, No. 3 in the West Virginia Class AA state poll, fell to 15-5.
“It was a track meet,’’ Allegany coach Tedd Eirich said. “They were sprinting up and down the court and I thought we did a great job keeping up with them.”
Colton Sivic also had a big day with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Darquel Jessie added eight points and seven rebounds, Hayden Bosley eight points, and Mario D’Atri seven assists.
In addition to their points, Nightengale also had seven rebounds and Eirich four assists.
Jarin Hilson had a game-high 27 points for the Polar Bears. Travon Horton had 16, DeVante Waites 11 and Shaquille Washington 10.
Allegany led 37-34 at halftime and trailed 57-56 going into the final quarter. It remained tight to the end. Thomas and Nightengale hit two foul shots in the closing minute to give Allegany its largest lead, which was the six-point final.
Allegany, down by 16 in the first half, came back to win the jayvee game 59-54. Darick Kerns poured in 29 points and Trevor Evix and Carson Imes had 10 for the Campers. Andrew Summers had 13 and Tavon Horton 10 for Fairmont Senior.
The Campers end their regular season Wednesday night at Moorefield.
Calvary Christian 50
Cumberland Valley 46
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Trailing for much of the first half, Calvary rebounded in the second to jump ahead of Cumberland Valley and finish the regular season with a 50-46 win Friday evening.
Tyler Michael scored 23 points and Justin Swogger finished with 16 to lead the way for the Eagles (10-13, 5-9 Mason-Dixon Conference).
Calvary found itself trailing 13-8 at the end of one quarter and was down 23-19 at halftime. The Eagles turned things around in the third to exit with a 37-25 lead.
Cumberland Valley got 17 points from Josh Sanders and 12 from Harper Lee.
The Eagles finished fifth in the conference and begin the MDCC Tournament on Tuesday at fourth-seeded Shalom.
Calvary’s jayvees won 38-28.
Zach Mason scored 14 points and Dalton Lowery added 13 in the win. The junior varsity Eagles finished the year with a 6-10 record.
Allegany 39, Fort Hill 36
CUMBERLAND — Jason Copman scored 18 points to lead the Allegany freshman to a 39-36 win over Fort Hill Wednesday at Fort Hill.
Nate Green added six for the Campers.
Ethan York scored 10 points and Danny May eight for Fort Hill.
