Mountain Ridge takes sting out of Hornets

— FROSTBURG — Anna Broadwater went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored for undefeated and top-ranked Mountain Ridge in a 5-0 defeat of Hope for Hyndman Charter School in softball action Wednessday at Mountain Ridge.

Carlie Lewis was again dominant on the mound, striking out 16 on her way to a 3-hit shutout. It is the eighth shutout by Miners pitching this year.

Lewis helped herself out by collecting two singles at the plate.

Kayla Wilt singled twice and Karly Willison singled for Hyndman’s hits.

The Miners swept the two games they played with the Hornets this season, winning the first 3-0.

Mountain Ridge (15-0) plays today, 4:30 p.m., against Allegany at Carl Belt Field.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Brittani Bible went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run for Petersburg in a 7-0 victory over Berkeley Springs in the West Virginia Region II, Section 2 Championship at Petersburg Wednesday.

Kaitlyn Keplinger allowed no runs on three hits and struck out six for the complete game win. She added three singles with the bat. Cheyenne Earle singled twice and Megan Cook doubled.

Sierra Farris and Abby Gillingham each singled for Berkeley Springs.

Petersburg (25-6) plays at Keyser May 9 in the regional tournament.

Northern    22

Bishop Walsh    2

ACCIDENT — Kirsten Raynor tripled twice, driving in five runs for No. 4 Northern in a 22-2 rout of Bishop Walsh at Northern Wednesday afternoon in AMAC softball.

Madison Rush added an RBI double to Raynor’s totals. Morgan Marple and Brianna Opel each singled twice, and score twice for the Huskies.

The Spartans managed three hits. Two singles by Maggie Matthews and a single from Caroline Snyder.

Northern (9-6) hosts Fort Hill today at 4:30 p.m. and Bishop Walsh (0-11) plays at Southern today at  5 p.m.

FROSTBURG — Kayla Stickley struck out 10, walked two and drove in three runs of her own to keep Mountain ridge unbeaten with an 11-run win over Fort Hill Wednesday afternoon.

Ashlyn Hormuth finished with a two singles and three RBIs of the Miners, and Stickley drove in her three on a triple and a single. 

Bri Godlove double for Fort Hill

Mountain Ridge (9-0-1) plays today at Allegany.
