MR finishes unbeaten

Lewis, Winner direct Miners over Northern, 13-3

FROSTBURG — Carlie Lewis allowed only four hits and Shae Winner drove in three runs as Mountain Ridge finished undefeated for the second year in a row with a 13-3 victory over Northern on Monday afternoon.

Winner had three hits, including a triple, for three RBIs. Katie Llewellyn also had three hits, with a double and two RBIs. Emma Baker, Jenna Miller and Anna Broadwater all had two hits. Baker belted two doubles and Miller and Broadwater each had a base hit and a double with one RBI.

Northern drops to 9-8.

The Miners (18-0) will be idle until May 13 as the top seed in the region. The draw is today and the first round will begin on Thursday with Mountain Ridge getting the winner between the third and sixth-seed game.

Fort Hill is expected to receive a bye as well as the second seed.

Hyndman    7  20

Forbes Road    6    7

HYNDMAN, Pa. — Mazy Diehl hit a three-run walk-off home run to win the first game and Hyndman used 13 hits to score 20 runs in the second as the Hornets swept Forbes Road on Monday.

In the opener, Forbes Road — behind two two-run innings and a run in the second and seventh innings — had built 6-2 lead and seemed on its way to a victory with three outs to go.

Hyndman, however, answered with five runs in the bottom of the seventh and celebrated after Diehl’s game-winner homer.

Johnna May led the Hornets with two hits and Katie Cosgrove, Carlie Willison, Julie Sanders and Jelaina Snyder each had a base hit.

Willison allowed 10 hits but she also struck out nine.

Forbes Road catcher C. Parsons was 5 for 5 with a triple and two RBIs. Hohman belted a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

In the second game, Hyndman, as the visitor, led 10-1 after two innings and ended the game with a seven-run fifth inning.

Winning pitcher Cosgrove went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. She struck out five, gave up five walks but held Forbes Road to only four base hits.

Willison had two hits, including a solo home run in the third inning, scoring four runs and driving in three. May had two hits and scored twice, Diehl went 3 for 5 and Snyder was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Hyndman (10-6) visits Fannett Metal on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
