Frostburg State pair compete at ECACs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Frostburg State’s Christian Smith and Devin Francillon posted top-10 finishes at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

In the final meet of his collegiate career, Smith posted a personal best in the shot put. Seeded last heading into the event, Smith finished ninth among 31 participants with a toss of 14.76 meters (48 feet, 5 1/4 inches).

Francillon finished fourth among 15 participants in the two-day decathlon. He climbed seven places and into the top-five after holding 11th place after day one. Francillon set personal records in seven of the 10 events on his way to All-ECAC honors. He took fourth place with 5,871 points.

BW awards night Wednesday

CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh School will be holding its annual Athletic Awards Night on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

The featured speaker will be Christina Sensabaugh, class of 2005. The Dr. Leo H. Ley Memorial Award will be given to the top senior female student athlete and the Rapplier Award will be presented to the top male student athlete. The John M. Alkire Memorial Scholarships will also be awarded to one male and one female senior.

Refreshments will be served following the awards ceremony.
