Oakland sweeps Cumberland in playoff preview

OAKLAND — Winning pitcher Bryan Lenhart doubled, singled and had two RBIs in the first game, and Cam King doubled, singled and knocked one run in the second to lead Oakland to a 12-1, 5-1 sweep of Cumberland in Pen-Mar WV League baseball action at Southern High School.

It was the regular-season finale for both teams, but the second-seeded Oaks (16-8) and third-seeded Orioles (10-14) will meet again in a best-of-three semifinal playoff series that begins Saturday, at 1 p.m., with one 9-inning game at Bel Air. Games two, and three if necessary, will be seven-inning games Sunday at Southern.

In Sunday’s first game, Oakland broke open a 2-1 game with an eight-run third inning, then added two more in the fourth in a game shortened by the 10-run rule.

Michael Logsdon had two singles and two RBIs, Corey Helbig and Cody Toothman two singles and one RBI, Tommie Reams two singles and Billy Reams a single and three RBIs for Oakland.

Lenhart allowed five hits and struck out two in five innings for the win.

Chris Wilson and Pat Russell singled twice for Oakland.

In the second game, the Oaks took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. Logsdon led off with a double and Cody Humberson walked to start the inning. Toothman knocked in Logsdon with a single and King doubled home Humberson.

Jason Ashby hit two singles and Logsdon excelled defensively at first base for Oakland. Winning pitcher Scott Cooper scattered six hits over six innings for the win and Derek Taylor pitched a perfect seventh. Neither walked a batter.

Wilson singled twice, Ben Russell hit an RBI double and Ryan Jeffreys singled and scored for Cumberland.
