Miners boys soccer meeting tonight at 8 o’clock

FROSTBURG  — The Mountain Ridge boys soccer team will hold an organizational meeting for parents and prospective players entering 9th-12th grade tonight, 8 p.m., in the Mountain Ridge auxiliary gymnasium.

An open field session will be held following the meeting. Players interested in playing during the open field play should bring cleats and shin guards. If there are any questions, contact Coach Tim Nightengale at 301-687-8022.

First Jr. Striders race tonight

CUMBERLAND — The Jr. Striders Running series begins tonight at Allegany College of Maryland. Jr. Striders is a series of six summer running events for children and adults. The complete calendar of events consists of June 3, Allegany College of Maryland; June 17, Glendenning Park in Frostburg; July 1, Frankfort High School; July 15, Keyser High School; July 29, Broadford Lake Park; and Aug. 12, Dan’s Mountain State Park.

Each event consists of a 1-mile race for children ages 12 and under and a 2-mile race open to everyone. Registration for today’s race begins at 6 p.m. For more information call Tom Dawson at 301-463-6231 or George Nolan at 301-697-8704.

Mtn. Ridge parents, players meet June 5

FROSTBURG — A Mountain Ridge football player/parent meeting will be held Thursday, June 5, 5:30 p.m., at Mountain Ridge. The meeting is mandatory for all returning players and incoming freshman and their parents. If unable to attend, contact Coach Roy DeVore at Mountain Ridge.

Independence 5K July 5 in Keyser

KEYSER, W.Va. — The Keyser Kiwanis Breakfast Club will sponsor the 25th Independence 5K Run and 1.5 Mile Walk on Saturday, July 5 at 8:30 a.m. in South Keyser.  Proceeds benefit community projects sponsored by the club.

Pre-race registration is to  be postmarked by June 28.  A late entry fee will be charged for entries postmarked after that date and on race day. Walk registration has no late fee. Race day sign-up will be from 7 to 8:15 a.m. in the west parking lot/picnic area of the pool. Tech T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 90 entrants.

Following the 5K, the club will sponsor  the 10th  Firecracker Quarter Mile.  This is a free kids run for children 10 years old and under. Parents must register their child on a waiver form.  Each participant will receive a T-shirt and goody bag.

Applications are available at Health Matters Urgent Care in Bel Air, Reed’s Drug Store in Keyser, Personal Best Athletics in the Narrows, also on Facebook at KeyserKiwanisIndependence5K.
