Mountain Maryland Classic begins today

CUMBERLAND — The fourth annual Mountain Maryland Baseball Classic begins today with games at the Hammersmith Hot Stove Complex fields at the Cumberland Fairgrounds, Frostburg State University, and Legion Field off Messick Road.

The tournament features Junior Legion and U17 travel teams. After three days of round robin play, the tournament concludes Saturday with championship round games.

Fort Cumberland Post 13, Frostburg Farrady Post 24 and Romney Post 91 are among the 16 teams participating. The field includes last year’s runner-up, Mt. Airy Post 191, third-place Frostburg Farrady Post 24, and the fourth-place Williamsport Nationals.

The tournament schedule appears in today’s scoreboard section at right.

 

Cathell scores ace on CCC’s 10th

CUMBERLAND  — Nick Cathell hit a hole-in-one on the 10th hole of the Cumberland Country Club.

The shot was witnessed by Lucas McGill and Brandon Bittner.

 

Pop Warner Tigers football, cheer sign-ups Saturday

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Tigers of the Pop Warner Football League is holding sign-ups for players and cheerleaders on Saturday, 5 until 7 p.m., at the Cumberland Martin’s Community Center.

Registration is open to any boy or girl age 5 through 15 who lives in the tri-state area.
