Grantsville SAL tops Twigg’s in eighth

— POTOMAC PARK — Ryan Weimer threw five strong innings in relief and Colton Houser scored on an infield error in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Grantsville SAL to a 5-4 victory over Twigg’s Plumbing & Heating in the Hot Stove League regular-season finale for both teams Saturday at Hamilton Field.

Weimer relieved in the fourth inning of a game tied 3-3 and allowed only an unearned run and struck out three to get the win.

Tied 4-4, Houser led off the Grantsville eighth by reaching on an error and stole second. After a walk to Hunter Mallow, a sacrifice by Richard Ravenscroft and an intentional walk to Ben Beeman that loaded the bases, Hunter Tice reached on an infield error as Houser scored the winning run.

Houser finished with a double and two singles, Mallow had a double, single and two RBIs and Beeman two singles for Grantsville SAL.

Twigg’s was limited to three scattered singles.

The game was the continuation of a game that had been suspended by rain earlier in the season. It was resumed with Grantsville SAL ahead 1-0 in the first inning.
